139 High Street
This is a brick building with English Bond and mortar bonding. Re-faced shop front, for a major retail outlet, with side wall less well finished. The three storey building stands at the corner of High Street and Regent Street.
There are three double glass doors on the left-front, and two double glass doors on the right front. The roof is flat, and topped with white-painted concrete. There are no chimneys. The front elevation ground floor windows consist of a modern plate-glass front, with a single window on the northern/right edge of the building. The first floor window course has several styles of window. The second story has identical spacing to the first, but the windows are four panels high instead of five, and the central window is not decorated. All windows have decorative brick lintels. (Voussoir) In addition to the ground floor Marks & Spencer shop sign, there is a metal-lettered Marks & Spencer sign just under the roof line. There is also a decorated concrete and metal ridge at roof level. The south wall side extends the length of Regent Street. The eastern end of the south wall is three storeys, and comprises a wrap around of the re-faced front. The finished area has one casement window on the first story and one casement window on the second storey.
Continuing west, along the south wall the building drops to two-stories and is English bond brick. The only door is a metal emergency exit at the west end. The ground level has four blanked brick windows, and one possible blank bricked door. The first storey has nine windows. Five were PVC and four were wood, but in the same style. There is also one bricked up window on this storey. The first storey also has one bricked up air vent. The bricked up windows all had concrete lintels.
