Head Wrightson

“If one person goes onto this archive, and finds a photograph or a Head Wrightson magazine reference to some of their family, and it makes them remember them or want to find out more, then I feel we’ve done a good job – I think we’ve done something worthwhile.  And I still think it’s worthwhile even if that doesn’t happen to be honest, because it’s just magical, it really is.”

The photo archive consists of over 16,000 negatives taken between 1959 and 1979.  The collection was preserved thanks to a grant from Heritage Lottery and the effort of our volunteers who put in the hard work of scanning the negatives and transcribing the index entries.

We have uploaded around 6,000 images to the archive so far and will continue to add more as they are made ready.

Any corrections to our indexing are very welcome. While we had some expertise from former Head Wrightson workers on the project, sixty-year-old handwritten engineering terminology can be a little tricky to decipher! Each photo has a comments box. If you notice an error, can add more information about a photo or put a name to a face, please comment and your contribution can help enhance the value of the archive.
