The Spotted Cow, Major Street
This is a derelict Public House Brick building complex heavily rendered. Building ranges comprise a square, with the frontage on Major Street, a major range of buildings running south from the west end this and ancillary buildings to the rear (south) of the complex. The east range is a probable toilet block. The east range and part of the south range is single storey and both the east range and much of the south range have flat roofs, with felt roofing.
The remainder of the complex is two storey roofed in modern concrete tile. The building is built of brick, extensively rendered and the frontage and west elevations have been largely re-built in the 1930s or later.
The bonding on the rebuilt front and west walls have alternate header and stretcher bonds. There is clear evidence of 19th century brick work in a protruding gable in the west range and in the chimney stacks. The detail of the windows is obscured by external metal shuttering, but these seem likely to be either large picture windows or picture windows with side casements.
There are signboards, on the north, west and east elevations, these comprise names only with no images. There is heavy plinth work at floor, window sill and first floor level. That at window cill level is made of stone but paint obscures the material used at the other levels. There is a steel trapdoor for barrel access to the cellar set into the pavement at the eastern end of the elevation.
