Swallow Hotel, John Walker Square
This is a seven storey modern brick and concrete building, constructed as a hotel in the early 1970s as part of the Castlegate Shopping Centre complex. The brickwork is in a standard English Stretcher with cement bonding. The building is roughly L-shaped, though only two elevations can be seen; including the north face which overlooks Shopping Centre and the west face which overlooks Bridge Street.
There are multiple entrances on the ground floor, including access to the roof car park. There are 14 horizontal sash windows per floor, from the 1st to the 6th floor, comprising approximately 140 guest bedrooms which are visible. The first floor overhangs a ground floor promenade which forms part of the frontage of various commercial units. The roof is constructed of concrete and is terraced.
