Regency West Hall, West Row

This property is a recent extension of Regency West Mall, and Maddox’s old warehouse. As such, architects have tried to replicate some of the design of the Maddox building, including the quoins on the corners of each face. The ground floor is fully occupied with various business, inside and out. Above the ground floor level is a pattern of coloured bricks forming a string around the building. The roof is a shallow gable with pantiles and half-round ridges. A patterned brick cornice follows the line of the roof on all sides.

Materials used: Modern 20th Century brick has been used throughout with minimalist concrete sills and lintels on all fenestration except the modern wooden shop facades. Stone quoins form the corner line of each face, and modern pantile ha been used on the roof.

Number of storeys: Three

Fenestration and doorways: From the side facing onto Ramsgate is a single door followed by two large windows framed with a wooden façade.

On the first and second floor of this side are five equally spaced windows. The front, which in fact has two distinctive faces at a shallow angle, begins with four large shop front facades with large paned windows, and between them facing into the junction of Ramsgate and West Row is a large gated entrance leading into the small mall. The first and second floor have twelve equally spaced windows covering both floors around to Maddox’s warehouse.

Relationship to Adjoining Buildings

This property is a modern extension of Maddox’s warehouse, and as such joins it at its left side. It roughly follows the footprint of the old line of buildings that used to occupy the site, although the road has been widened to allow for current traffic levels.
