9 High Street

This three storey brick building has a British garden mortar bonding. The roof is a slate mansard with living space. The gable wall is capped with stone. There are two brick chimneys with stone caps, one to the north and the other to the south of the building with three and four pots. There are two single entrances on either side to the hotel front and a gate to the southern side of the western wall leading to a rear yard. The first floor has five large windows with stone surrounding which is highly decorated. The pediments above this window are alternately curved and triangular highly decorative. There are rectangular ornamental panels below these windows.

The second floor has five two pane windows with stone surrounding and pillars. The third floor has five dormer windows with stone pediments. The Ground floor has large windows some curved and the frontage is supported on a number of marble pillars. There are quoin stones up the edge of the frontage. There is an eaves course of ornamental stone work.

Note: At the time of recording the windows were boarded over in metal. The side walls are plain brick. The rear (east side) of the building Has a hipped slate roof extension of three storeys parallel to the main building. This is a poorer quality brick than main building. At the south end are white brick Quoin stones. The rear first floor has four windows with stone lintels and sills. The second floor has three similar widows, and another one of which has been opened to form an emergency exit. Various outbuildings exist in a large yard not readily visible. Each of the doorways which are inset have a coloured mosaic floor.
