88 – 106 Church Road

This terrace consists of 10 buildings. The terrace slopes gently down eastwards so there are stepped entrances and a stepped roof-line. On the south elevation, all appear to have living space on the first floor and except for one, some kind of retail activity on the ground floor e.g. newsagent, hair salon and computers. As built they were of brick (mortar) with English Garden Wall Bond as visible at 88 and 90, but four are now rendered and painted e.g. 92 and 106 (at the latter building the render is scored to resemble stone blocks.

Three buildings have slate on the roof, while seven have modern tiles; all are pitched north-south and gables show on the west and east ends of the terrace. 92 has a velux window. There are four shared transverse brick chimney stacks found on the ends of buildings (90-104) and one on each of the first and last. 102/104 has eight square/rectangular pots with two on 94/96, while 90/98/100 have metal flues. Buildings 88-94 and 102-106 have single doors within the shop front while buildings 96-100 have two doors for access to separate residential properties.

On the ground floors have varied, typical retail frontages including doors, some with shutters, all with windows and sign boards. Building even also has sign board on the first floor. Each building has one window with a painted, brick arch lintel, painted stone sills and each is outlined by painted/coloured bricks. The first building has raised brick quoins at west end. Wooden fascia at eaves. The rear north elevation shows that the buildings have some kind of extension and yard area.
