66 Dovecot Street

The building is of brick and stone, Flemish bond, with mortar bonding. The ground floor is stone-faced, and very ornate. The roof is a mixture of slate, felt and lead. At the front it is slate ridged up to felted flat roof (it looks as if it was a ridged roof, raised at the back to a flat roof – to give an attic floor). There is a parapet to the roof. There is one double entrance to the front. The ground-floor frontage of the building is symmetrical, with a window to the East end, matching the door to the West. The windows and door have canopies, with stone kneelers.

On the first floor again the windows have canopies supported by ornate kneelers. There are balustrades under the windows upstairs. The first floor windows are double windows, but with a single window over the ground floor door. There is a cellar, with metal covers on the pavement.

On the frontage there is some Greek frieze decoration. There is other decoration just below roof level. The ornate nature of the building is best seen from the photographs. On the East side, there is visible the top of the wall which has a parapet with two ornamental stone caps.

On the West side there is an extended chimney for the adjacent building no 68. There is a capped column in the centre of the parapet on this wall. On the North side, the building has a cladded external stairway, and appears to extend to four floors. There are two entrances to a rear yard. Ground floor windows are not visible.

On the first floor there is one two-light window. On the second floor there are two sash windows: one has four panes and one has eight panes. On the third floor there are two sash windows, with eight panes. The external stairway has four windows at various levels. There is a large rectangular chimney at the rear, with four pots and one steel vent.
