62-66 Norton Road (Victoria Terrace)

Victoria Terrace is a block of nine buildings which has been split into four blocks for the purpose of this survey. The building recorded here is at the south end of the block and consists of two shops which have been altered over the years. The building is constructed of brick. The construction of the front is in Flemish bond and the side wall is English garden wall bond. The roof is slate and of hipped form. The chimneys are brick, and have varying numbers of pots. There are two glass doors to the chemists shop and a corner glass door to the hairdressers. The ground floor has a modern shop front to the chemists and a Victorian style shop front to the hairdresssers.

The chemists shop has three single pane windows at first floor level and some of the windows are at a higher level. The hairdressers, number 62, has a large Victorian style shop front and has two four pane sash windows with brick lintels. There is evidence that the windows have replaced a larger window but they are now in the original style. There is a stone stringer course visible at first floor level. This has been broken by the shop front, the chemists, but is still visible. There is a parapet and cornice just below roof level. There is a barber sign above the front door. The walls are brick with English garden wall bond. The building has an extension to the rear which appears to be later and has a curved rear wall.

On the ground floor is part of the barbers shop front and in the extension is another small shop with a single door. On the ground floor there are two four pane sash windows with brick lintels in the original block. At first floor level there are three four pane sash windows with brick lintels. There is a stone stringer course below the windows of first and ground floor level. The extension has a slate roof with a brick chimney at the rear. The top floor has three two pane sash windows with brick lintels and stone sills.

The ground floor has the shop front, the door with a wooden surround and one two pane sash window. The rear of 64-66 has a full length fairly modern two-storey extension. It has three blocked doorways with a lifting beam above. There is a rear back door and there is three small windows at the top. Number 62 has two pane UPVC window in the left rear and two pane UPVC window at first floor level. The Garbutt Street extension has a half-extension with a ridge roof installate. The yard wall has two doors. There are small blocked windows in part of this wall, an English garden wall bond.
