27 – 29 Bridge Road

A 3 storey brick (mortar) building with painted render the west elevation facing Bridge Road. Hipped roof to N.(Wharf St.), but gable to S. To the rear is a two storey extension. The north elevation faces Wharf St. The west elevation has : Grd. – 2 x 3 fixed light wooden windows, wooden sills within ‘shop front’; the latter has prominent illuminated wood sign board (5x4 planks) with canopies. 4 lamps on brick ‘pillars’ 1st floor – 2 windows (opening) each 2x10 lights 2nd floor – has 3 recessed windows, upvc, with arch panel above and decorated brick patterns below. Evidence of brick string courses. Timber beams exposed above 1st floor windows suggesting longstanding damage to front and subsequent repair. Ornamental brick corbels and cornice. Remains of old iron signs (brackets) . Plastic guttering and rainwater pipes. The front of the north elevation has : continuation of ‘shop front’ on ground floor 1st floor - 2x2 light upvc windows with lower casement top opening. 2nd floor - 2x2 windows similar to those on 2nd floor of west elevation. Two string courses, the lower including sills to 1st floor windows. The rear is two storey with a gable (east end) roof pitched N-S. Grd. floor has two single doors, with sign ,canopy and vents serving the restaurant and the B&B accom. On the 1st floor are 5 windows upvc, sills in string course similar to others at north elevation of front part of the building. Brick at eaves below guttering. A vent is located in roof. The east elevation has 2 upvc, windows similar to others on the 1st floor, but with brick sills. . Grd. floor has similar shop ‘front’ to west elevation e.g. sign board and lamps, but with a double door and additional different illumination. Each of the three elevations has newly renovated brick ‘pillars’ (all stretchers).
