25 Bridge Road and 1a Wharf Street

This is a complex of building with the main two storey house of two storeys and a basement facing Bridge Road with a half width rear extension of two storeys linking to a second two storey house No 1a Wharf Street.

The yard between the two houses has had a single storey extension added in modern brick with what appears to be a flat roof. The main building is constructed of brick with mortar jointing in English garden wall bond. The roof is tiled and of hipped form. The door is to the north end of the building with four steps up and has a wooden door case which is only slightly ornamented with a slight overhang above the door. The door has had a glass panel above but is boarded up. The house has full height bay windows from the basement up to first floor.

The basement has three widows (boarded up) but the surrounding masonry has been rendered. The ground floor has three widows (boarded up) with possibly stone sills. There are ornamented panels below the first floor bay which has sash windows. Internally there appears to be half height secondary gazed window in squares of coloured glass. The bays have the usual overhanging roof. The first floor also has sash window again with the internal coloured glass and stone lintels and sills. The rainwater drainpipes are cast iron with no evidence of ornamentation. There is some plain wooden fascia boards to which relatively modern guttering is attached.

The south wall is of similar brick with two brick chimneys which are truncated one with modern metal vent. There are two  casement windows to the first floor with no lintels or sills. These appear relatively modern. There are what appear to be two small blocked windows high on the ground floor, boarded up. But these may be later additions. There is a brick lintel just above ground level which was probably a basement window but now contains clay vent bricks. There is a plain wood facia board with modern guttering. The rear wall of this part has one 12 pane sash window with brick lintel and stone sill. The fascia board has the remains of some wooden moulding. There is a half width two storey old extension attached to the building with a tiled half ridge roof. This link extension has a number of windows at first floor level. There is a four pane sash window with some moulding around. There is a three pane modern casement window and there is a large four pane sash window with a two pane sash window on either side all surrounded by moulding. There is a small single pane window in an angled brick corner joining up to No 1a.

The ground floor extension is of modern brick which does not match the original brick. This extension has a door and two narrow windows high up the wall, all boarded up. The south wall of number 1a Wharf Street is of brick with mortar jointing and English garden wall bond, it appears slightly later than the main building. The roof is tiled and of the hip form. The south wall has a door on the ground floor with window above with stone step and stone lintel with slight cutout.

The windows on this floor are two sash windows (boarded up) with stone sills and lintels. The first floor has three two pane sash windows with stone sills and lintels. The rear of this building has one ground floor window with stone sill and lintels sash window.

The first floor has a two pane sash window with stone sill and lintel. The fascia board has wooden corbels supporting what appears to be lead guttering with cast iron downpipes. As mentioned before there is a small window in the corner of the link to the extension to the main building
