2-8 West Row

This long terrace of buildings was originally built for reasons of business. Large, first floor storeroom doors, some still with winches above them dating back to the 19th and early 20th Centuries.

The property is divided into four occupants, whereupon No. 8, the Hickson garage extend around the back of the terrace and occupying a large metal shed with corrugated iron walls and roofing, all developed by Hickson in the 1930’s. The ground floor is covered by modern wooden shop facades, whereas the first floor walls are all white washed, but the brickwork is still highly visible indicating Flemish, and alternating English bonding. Some of the fenestration has retained its wooden beam lintels – others have since installed upvc windows with a modern arch head, probably also of plastic. The roof has been recently refurbished with black pantiles, and new guttering. Around the side facing into the car park, the walls have been heavily rendered all the way from main front to extension to No. 17 Price Regent Street.

At the base of the wall, a plinth-like band of brick has been left un-rendered, but painted black. Materials used: 19th Century brick with white-wash and render on alternating faces. Number of storeys: two Fenestration and doorways: The property front has five single entrances and one large garage entrance. The entrances have a total of six windows of varying shape between them. The first floor has seven arched windows and two storage entrances with winches still attached in places.
