2-8 Norton Road

The building is brick with the north end being partly rendered; the brick work is Flemish bond. On the south wall of the building shows old brick with an English garden bond. The building has a slate roof, from the front there are three brick rectangular chimneys one at each end and one in the centre. The chimney in the centre has 8 pots. On the ground floor there are two entrances, the double entrance is associated with the no 8 and its shop frontage. The single is associated with the building with no 2. The single entrance is surrounded with a decorative frame; it is flanked by two round stone pillars with stone steps. There is a blocked gate entrance to the south side no 2. Windows on the ground floor are a shop front to the rendered end and one large window to the brick works end with a sign just above. Above no 8’s shop front on the 1st floor there are two large square bay windows with 4x4 panes. At the other end there are two sliding sash windows with painted stone lintels.

On the 2nd floor there are five sliding sash windows with painted stone lintels which cover the complete Second floor level. Along the two end of the building there are stone quoin stones. There is a stone stringer below the windows on both the 1st and 2nd floors. This continues along the northern side of no 8. The north side of the building is rendered which hides the brick works, like the front there are quoin stone lining the ends. On the ground floor there is a shop front next to the single storey extension with two single entrances at either side of the shop front. There is a wooden casement door just to the right of the entrance with the shop front. Finally there is an entrance to the betting shop on the front at the west side to the north wall. There is a blocked window in the single storey extension. On the first floor there are sliding sash windows with stone lintels, the second floor is just the same.

The rear Elevation at the back of no 8’s extension there is a single entrance on the first floor, the wall is rendered. There are three gates that lead into the rear yards. Just to the left there is a small chimney with one pot. The extension has a half ridge roof which is part of the hipped roof. The south side of this extension is of old brickwork showing that this was part of the original building. There are two sash windows on the first floor and on the second floor there are two staggered four pane sash window and brickwork suggesting a blocked attic window. Number 6 in the centre of the block has two sash windows at second floor level. The rear extension has three bricked up windows on the north side the extension is two stories with a flat roof. No2 at the south end of the block has a single blocked up window on second floor and a second blocked up window at between first and second floor levels. There are also two skylights in the roof suggesting some sort of accommodation in the roof space There is a two storey extension with blocked up windows on the north side. All windows had stone sills.
