19 Dovecot Street

This corner building straddles Dovecot Street and the north end of West Row, and consists of a single terraced house with a fully consolidated extension. The building re-continues the white-washed look of 5 – 15 Dovecot Street. The ground floor has a modern thin-metal framed façade with large panes of glass of which doors, one to the left facing towards the high street, and the other facing up Dovecot Street and West Row.

The first floor also extends as far back as the ground floor sporting stepped eave circulating the entirety of the property which faces onto a street. The roof has been recently retiled in reproduction slate cornered and held by bonnet hip tiles. The brick work is English Garden Wall with mortar bonding. It should also be noted that each of the window has black painted sills and cambered brick arch lintels. A separate façade serves a now empty function and another single door towards the back of the property, presumably allowing access to the first floor.

Materials used: 19th Century brick has been used to create the front and side faces of the property, except the back which has been rendered from ground floor to the gable end. The roof is made of repro tiles and the shop frontage is made of metal, probably stainless steel, and wood.

Number of storeys: 2

Fenestration and doorways: The front of the shop consists of one long pane of glass on the ground floor and one small three-paned window on the first. Two single doors allow access into the shop foyer from the corners of the building, and a further single door is to be found at the back of the property facing into West Row, probably serving a separate function to the sandwich shop.

There are three equally spaced windows of similar design to the front, are found on the first floor of the side face. A low rectangular window is found on the ground floor of the side with a further small window halfway up the building, probably allowing light in halfway up the stairs.
