17 Dovecot Street
This building is striking in its appearance. In 1914, the merchant who owned this property paid for a stone-facing façade to promote his business, very similar in style to the sandstone façade built at No. 126, High Street. The ground floor has a large, modern, wooden façade with an inset single door.
The first floor is completely covered with light grey stone-facing which rises into a highly ornate facia and mock eaves. This rises again to final semi- circular parapet. In the centre is a foundation date ‘1914’ ornately carved into the stone facing. The back of the building shows quite clearly the original brick coursing in English Garden Wall in mortar bonding.
The materials used are brick, overlaid with stone facing on the front with a wood and glass façade covering the ground floor frontage. There are two storeys. The ground floor front has three panes of glass with a single door deeply inset creating a porch feature.
