154-157 High Street The Globe
This is a three storey building, in the art deco style, constructed of concrete blocks. A tiled ground floor frontage has been added which extends partly around to the right hand elevation.
It has a flat roof. The front elevation rises symmetrically to various heights above the roofline. There are two entrances in the front elevation, a large central main entrance plus a smaller left hand side entrance, both of which are currently blocked. In the right hand elevation there are two entrances, a single door to the left and a double door to the far right.
On the front elevation there are no windows to the ground floor. The arrangement of the windows on the first and second floors is identical. On each floor there are five rectangular windows, each containing 15 horizontal panes.
In addition, to the left hand side are two smaller windows containing three horizontal panes which are possible stair windows. In the right hand elevation there are two small rectangular windows, with sills, in the centre which have been boarded up. To the first floor there are four windows, with sills and lintels, left of the centre also boarded up. There are no windows on the second floor. There are several small brick vents visible at first floor level.
The building façade is decorative in the art deco style. This includes two tall narrow iron fretwork iron panels which divide the centre of the building from the left and right sides. There are also two square open fretwork panels to the left and right at the top of the façade. There are 10 raised blue-painted fluted panels running vertically across the first and second floors. There is further raised decorative blue work. There are also three cameo type blue figures in relief within circles between the first and second floors, in line with the centre three windows.
