148 High Street
This is a three storey building constructed of painted brick and mortar, with an unusual pattern of rows compromised of all stretchers interspersed with rows of stretchers and headers. The gabled roof is flat, possibly made from concrete tiles. There are three brick transverse rectangular chimney stacks, one on the right hand side and two on the left. On the ground floor shop front protrudes onto the high street for the full width of the building. There are two recessed entrances, one for each shop.
On the ground floor each doorway is flanked by large plate glass shop windows to the front, and into the recessed doorways. On the first floor there are five rectangular sash windows with 12 small panes with decorative lintels and projecting sills. Finally the second floor has five similar windows, above those on the first floor.
Above each second floor window a hook is present. In the centre of the building above the eaves, and behind the raised façade, is a small decorative triangular pediment of unknown function. There are alternating long and short quoins on either side of the façade.
