12-14 Church Road
This is a three storey building of a red brick and mortar construction, with all stretcher bonding. This building was constructed as an extension to 16 Church Road.
It has a twin gabled slate roof. There are five transverse rectangular brick chimney stacks; two are on the far left one behind the other, 1 is on the far right and shared with 16 Church Road, and two others are in between. There are two clay pots on the front left hand stack. There are two single entrances.
The ground floor has five rectangular sash windows . The first and second floors have seven rectangular sash windows; the windows above the doors are narrower than the other windows. Above both doors are semi-circular fan lights with 16 small panes. The foot of the building has a decorative stone plinth which continues under the ground floor windows.
All widows are surrounded by decorative stone work of three different designs on the ground and first floors and a further design on the second floor. A stone string course runs beneath the second floor windows with additional blocks beneath each window. There are two triangular pediments on the façade in front of the roof, each with low horizontal extensions to the sides; these are decorated with scroll and flute patterns.
The main doorway has pilasters, with scrolled capitals, supporting a stone canopy. There is a smaller canopy over the left hand door. Both doorways have stone surrounds and fan-lights. Three steps lead up to the main entrance and two steps to the left hand entrance. Running under the eaves is a course of ‘egg and dart’ decoration. Two drainpipes with fancy hoppers run down the left hand edge of the building and to the left of centre.
