Mary Jane Clinton - Stockton's First Woman Porter

Mary Jane Clinton - the first woman porter at Stockton Station during the First World War.

By the age of 26, Mary Jane Clinton had been widowed twice and was left without a pension and three young children to care for. Determined to provide for her family she fought back against her unfortunate circumstances and went on to become the first woman porter at Stockton Station during the First World War.

Mary Jane was born on 14th February 1888 - whereabouts unknown. She died 21st March 1977, aged 89 and is buried in Oxbridge Lane Cemetery.
