21 & 23 Dovecot Street

This property straddles the corner of West Row and Dovecot Street opposite. On the ground floor there is a modern glass and stainless steel front installed, supported by modern bricks in standard stretcher bonding. On the first floor still retains its original early 20th Century brick in English Garden Wall bonding. All the first floor windows are original.

The roof has a decorated brick cornice following the entire length of each face beneath the eaves and has a gable profile which has two ridges of bonnet hip tiles from chimney to two corner edges, the rest of which is slate tile. At the back of the property a large later extension has been added to the ground floor, on top of which sits an even more recent wooden extension to the first floor.

Materials used: A combination of early 20th Century and later bricks has been used to construct various faces around the property. The shop façade is made primarily of glass and stainless steel, and a small extension to the back of the first floor is made of wood.

Fenestration and doorways: A single door main entrance to the property is found on the Dovecot Street face ground floor. Along the side facing into West Row is a double and a single door into the extension. T

he ground floor has façade which incorporates a total of sixteen windows, including a serving-window on the corner face.

The first floor has eight sash windows with black painted sill and lintels equally spaced around the front, corner and side of the property. At the back two long, thin windows allow light into the ground floor extension, two small windows on the first floor brick face, and one small single pane window on the wooden extension.
