The War Diaries of Roger Stamp

October 19, 2018 no comments

Over the past three years we’ve been publishing extracts from the war diaries of Stockton man Roger Stamp.  Lance Corporal Stamp served in France, participating in the Second Battle of Ypres.  Wounded three times he was discharged on medical grounds after sustaining injuries from an exploding bomb at Guemappe in 1917.

To mark one hundred years since the end of hostilities Roger’s relative Linda Patterson has very kindly allowed us to display some of Roger’s diaries, written while he was on the Western Front.  Transcriptions are available to read on Heritage Stockton starting here but to see the actual hand written diaries themselves come along to the Reference Library in Stockton.
