The Stocktonian Magazine

After months of hard work from our digital heritage volunteers we’re delighted to announce the newest addition to our online resources. Our Stocktonian School Magazine collection spans almost a century and is a trove of information about the pupils who attended Stockton Secondary School, and later Grangefield, over the years. Academic and sporting success are celebrated, as are creative endeavours and notable musical accomplishments. Aside from these snapshots of personal history it is striking how global events force their way into the local concerns of a school magazine. Particularly affecting is how the prolonged conflict and mounting death toll of the First World War cannot avoid mention:
The “Former Students Here and There” section is full of interest for alumni, genealogists and those with friends or family who attended the school. And, as we’ve seen here, there’s a mention for future Oscar Nominated Hollywood director Ridley Scott and also future Booker Prize winner Pat Barker:
Our archive is fully searchable, but you might note our collection is not complete. So, if any old boys or girls are reading this and have a cardboard box full of old Stocktonians at the back of the cupboard, then do get in touch with us!
