Ernest Taylor Remembrance Service

October 20, 2017 no comments

Our post in August featured the story of Ernest Taylor of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, with Ernest’s grandson, Ken Oliver, sharing his research with us. Last week a remembrance service was held at St Peter’s Church, Stockton, 100 years to the day Ernest was killed in action.

The service was attended by 20 of Ernest’s descendants and close friends of theirs, as well as the Mayor and Mayoress. Ken has kindly sent us some photos of this unique occasion, a poignant tribute to one of the many servicemen who lost their lives in the 1914-1918 conflict.

The wreath was laid on the memorial board by his great great grandchildren and will be transferred to the cenotaph in Stockton.
