Donations and Loans

We were delighted to receive two significant collections from members of the public this week. In response to our appeal for any Stocktonian school magazines to add to the online resources already available, one “old boy” very generously loaned us his collection which fills many of the gaps in the online collection. As was pointed out to us, this magazine while part of the wider history of Stockton is also part of the personal history of individuals whose names come and go across the years. Our Digital Heritage Volunteers will again be very generously giving their time to scan these archives and over the coming weeks they will be added to the online collection for all to see.

Our second donation was a wonderful collection of theatre programmes from the Stockton Hippodrome. The Hippodrome stood on the site of the current Stockton Arts Centre, The Arc, and this donation once again reminds us of the rich theatrical history of Stockton-on-Tees. With the ongoing restoration of the Globe Theatre generating much interest and rediscovery of archive material, these programmes will be added to our Theatres Resources section to preserve this piece of our Borough’s heritage.

If anyone reading this post has a collection, large or small, of items relating to the Stockton area – schools, theatres, workplaces, sports – which could benefit from digital preservation then please do get in touch with us.
